Synopsis : 

Marco Contrada, biologiste de la faune, arrive dans la région forestière de Frioule en Italie, non loin de la frontière slovaque. Il a disposé plusieurs caméras infrarouges dans les bois pour étudier le comportement des animaux sauvages et leurs traces. Un jour, il s'aventure au-delà de la rivière, déchainée par le mauvais temps, et se retrouve emprisonné sur la berge opposée. S'avançant dans les bois, un village abandonné attire son attention. Au loin, des cris humains retentissent.
